CHISINAU, March 7 (RIA Novosti) - Parliamentary elections in Moldova were democratic, said republican president Vladimir Voronin.

"Our country has passed the main exam to be in line with international standards with certain remarks," Voronin said at a press conference in Chisinau.

He said it was possible "to prevent counterrevolution" in Moldova.

"Our second achievement was that we prevented a counterrevolution that was reflected on by some. Unlike Ukraine and Georgia, the revolution in Moldova took place in October 2001, when we started to remove corrupted bureaucrats from the way," said the Moldovan president.

In Voronin's opinion, Moldova experienced such a massive interference in the election process for the first time.

In his words, "our people... proved unready for such a blow. The more so as the blow came from behind, from the side that was considered and I hope will be considered friendly."

"It's dishonest to talk about Russophobia in Moldova," said Voronin.

"We have no intention of opposing our domestic and foreign policy to the interests of great Russia," he said.

"We want Russia to reckon with the interests of Moldova not as a former Soviet republic but as a sovereign state," said Voronin.

In his opinion, this will lead to consensus with Russia, which "we are all aiming at."

"We did not start information war with Russia. For all four years we have consecutively proposed to great Russia different variants to resolve the Transdniestrian (Transdniestria is a self-proclaimed republic on Moldovan territory) problem," said the Moldovan president.
