MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti's Sergei Kuznetsov) - Mikhail Youzhny lost the Davis Cup opening meet to Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. "I wasn't in the best of health," explains Russia's Number Two.

"I didn't move the way I should like. My legs were rather clumsy. See, I didn't play for a long time, and couldn't come to this match in the best of form," he said to a news conference after the meet.

It was not by chance he lost two sets in tiebreaks. "Gonzalez made a fine show, with excellent serves and good returns. I couldn't match him, and so I lost."

Mikhail's knee is quite well after an injury, and never ached during the meet, he added.

Chile is leading the eighth-finals, 1-0, as Marat Safin, Russia's One and Australian Open champ, faces Adrian Garcia in today's second single.
