THREE RUSSIAN HELICOPTERS FOR RED CRESCENT REACH TEHRAN

TEHRAN, March 4 (RIA Novosti's Nikolai Terekhov) - Transport airliner AN-124-100 with three Russian helicopters Mi-17 for the Iranian Red Crescent organization has landed in Tehran's Mehrabad airport.

A Russian company sent them from Kazan, attache of the Russian embassy in Iran Nikolai Gribkov told RIA Novosti.

Mr. Kamran Shahin of the Iranian company Aseman Giti told RIA Novosti in the interview: "The recipient of the Russian helicopters is the Iranian Organization of the Red Crescent. It plans their use in giving help to victims, carrying emergency cargoes and teams of rescuers, for humanitarian purposes".

"It is the first batch of helicopters from the Kazan helicopter factory. Shipments are done under the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental agreement singed in July 2004", Mr. Shahin said.

"Earlier, civilian and military helicopters arrived from Ulan-Ude. Today about 60 Russian helicopters are in service in Iran", he said.

"Hopefully, such productive cooperation between Russia and Iran within the framework of bilateral agreements and in line with the international treaties will continue, he added.
