MAKHACHKALA, March 3 (RIA Novosti) - The explosion in a police precinct in Makhachkala was aimed against the police and rank-and-file residents, public relations officer of the Daghestan Interior Ministry Colonel Abdulmanap Musaev told RIA Novosti.

"Apparently, criminals did not only mean to attack and kill policemen. The blast was aimed also against simple people", Colonel Musaev said.

Every night district police officers receive residents, he said.

The explosion took place at 18:51. Two police lieutenants have been wounded. Luckily, nobody has been killed.

One of the wounded is in a grave condition, Mr. Musaev said.

Also, a nine-year-old child has been wounded in the head. He was going to buy bread and at that moment was near the precinct. The child was taken to the hospital.

Supposedly, the bomb was placed on the window-sill on the outside.

The police precinct is found on the first floor of a five-storey house No 8A on the Aivazovski street in the Separatorny settlement, the north-west district of Makhachkala (capital of Daghestan, adjacent to Chechnya).

The plans Perekhvat (Interception) and Vulkan-5 (Volcano-5) have been put into operation. An operational-investigative group is working on the site.
