U.S. INSISTS ON PASSING IRAN'S NUCLEAR FILE TO UN SECURITY COUNCIL

VIENNA, March 2 (RIA Novosti's Borislav Pechnikov) - The United States has demanded from the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, a new report on the true state of the Iranian nuclear program for submitting the "nuclear file" for consideration by the United Nations Security Council.

Jackie Sanders, the US representative to the IAEA Board of Governors, whose session has been on for a third day in Vienna, said that the IAEA as a specialized organization of the United Nations should abide by the UN Charter and pass the Iranian "nuclear file" to the Security Council for the adoption of sanctions against Tehran, which is cynically manipulating with the main clauses of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and has staged a true "hunt" for nuclear weapons.

Ms. Sanders stressed that Mr. ElBaradei should submit the report before the start of the regular session of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna in June.

Experts say that the submitting of report by the IAEA director general in the mode required by Washington will be a start for the imposition of sanctions against Tehran. It is hard to say yet whether other members of the IAEA Board of Governors, particularly Russia, China and India, would support this radical stand of the United States with regard to Iran, analysts say. On the other hand, Washington in the Iran matter has already got indirect backing from EU members of the Board of Governors, experts say.
