MIDDLE EAST: LONDON CONFEREES TO BLUEPRINT ROAD MAP EFFORTS

MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) - Representatives of the international quartet for Middle East settlement mediation will hold session in London to determine the best ways of Road Map implementation, Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a Novosti interview.

"The four mediators will analyze the Parties' compliance with pledges they made in Sharm-al-Sheikh. They will take stock of additional measures necessary to make the ceasefire a lasting arrangement, steady enough for sizable improvement of security, social and economic developments, and a Palestinian National Authority reform, and to make negotiations a dynamic and full-blooded process."

The four mediators' guiding role is of special importance nowadays, pointed out the diplomat.

"Whatever structures there are now to reform the Palestinian National Authority in the fields of rule, economy and security must be accountable to the Quartet. That's the point Moscow proceeds from," he emphasized.

Russia deems it necessary for the London conferees also to confirm the importance of all-round settlement in the Middle East through pronouncing for Israel, Syria and Lebanon to resume their negotiations on the available international legal basis, added Mr. Yakovenko.

The conference for assistance to the Palestinian National Authority is gathering in London, March 1, at a foreign-ministerial level. The Palestinian top, the four international mediators-Russia, the USA, the European Union and the United Nations-and key donors have been invited to attend, said our informant.
