RUSSIA'S 2004 FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER GROWS BUT OTHER STATISTICS IS DEPRESSING

MOSCOW, February 24 (RIA Novosti) - In 2004 Russia's foreign trade turnover increased by 31.1% to $278,801 million from 2003, according to the balance-of-payments methods. The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) has circulated this information on Thursday.

The export-import difference was $88,351 million. The 2004 exports from the Russian Federation, in comparison with 2003, increased by 34.8% to $183,180 million dollars; imports by 24.7% to $94,834 million.

In the fourth quarter of 2004, the foreign trade turnover was 35.7% up to $82,083 million; the volume of exports exceeded imports by $26,640 million.

In December 2004, as compared to December 2003, the foreign trade turnover of the Russian Federation increased by 32.1% to $29,623 million dollars; balance was $9,023 million.

Investments in the fixed capital in Russia in January 2005 in comparison with January 2004 increased by 7% to 143,300,000 rubles ($1=27.83 rubles).

A year earlier, in January 2004 the volume of investments in comparison with January 2003 increased by 12.7%, in comparison with December 2003 fell by 67.2%.

The real disposable incomes of the Russian population (incomes minus obligatory payments adjusted for the consumer price index) in January 2005 in comparison with the corresponding 2004 period are estimated to subside by 9.6%.

At the same time, a year earlier, in January 2004 as compared to January 2003, the real monetary incomes of the population increased by 19.4%.

In the figures of the Federal Statistical Service, the average per capita monetary income in 2005 January was 5,353 rubles, or 2.4% higher than in 2004 January, though 42% less than in December 2004. In January 2004 the size of the monetary income exceeded last year's (January 2003) by 34.6% but was 30% lower than in the preceding month (December 2003).

The average calculated wage in 2005 January was, in preliminary estimates, 7,039 rubles and 18.7% higher than in January 2004. The growth of the real monthly wage was 5.3% in comparison with January 2003.
