BRATISLAVA, February 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia does not intend to create is own variant of democracy, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at the joint conference in Bratislava after the Russian-American summit.

"We do not intend to devise any Russian-style democracy. We will stick to the democratic principles asserted in the civilized world. Naturally, all the main institutions and principles of democracy should be adequate to the current state of the Russian society, its history and traditions," the President said.

In every country "these general principles find some or other implementation," including in the legislative law, he pointed out.

"But the fundamental principles must be implemented as they were accepted in the civilized society," he added.

Mr. Putin pointed out that the achievement of the previous stage in Russia's development is that "the previous generation of politicians despite all the problems related to the changes in the country managed to give people the most important - freedom."

"Implementation of democracy should be accompanied by a breakup of the state and impoverishment of the population," he emphasized.

As to accession to the World Trade Organization, Russia is ready to compromise, but its concessions should not exceed obligations all countries undertake when joining the WTO, the Russian leader said.

"Russia is ready for reasonable compromises [for accession to the WTO], but these concessions should not exceed obligations all countries undertake when joining the WTO," he said.

At the talks with George Bush, the parties discussed the two countries' economic cooperation, including Russia's possible accession to the WTO.

"We have asserted our intention to continue a constructive dialog and look for mutually acceptable decision," Mr. Putin said. He said he was certain that "both Russia and the US are interested in a positive settlement of the issue."
