MOSCOW, February 21 (RIA Novosti) - The head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Alexander Veshnyakov, has confirmed that his CEC was not invited to send observers to the Moldova elections.

"The Moldovan authorities have not sent an official invitation for international monitoring of the parliamentary elections", Mr. Veshnyakov said on Monday to the answer from journalists.

Moldova's parliamentary elections are set for March 6. Russian parliamentarians have been denied the right to observe them and several days ago a number of Russian nationals were expelled from the country by the local authorities.

Speaking of parliamentary elections in Russia, Mr.Veshnyakov noted that at least ten political parties will participate in the next Duma elections.

"I cannot agree with those saying that the number of participants in the 2007 elections will be axed", he told journalists after a conference with the leaders of political parties.

"I think that from four to five parties will be represented in the next parliament", he noted.

The CEC head recalled that the next parliamentary elections in Russia will be held strictly according to the proportional formula. In order to parliamentary representation parties will have to overcome the seven-percent barrier, he said.
