TBILISI, February 20 (RIA Novosti) - Tbilisi residents who want to install Iranian-made gas heaters in their apartments will have to obtain a special permit and a license.

The proposal to introduce special permits for installation of gas heaters was put forward by head of Tbilgas David Morchiladze, the Novosti-Georgia new agency reports.

The Tbilgas management proposes introducing fines for people who install gas heaters without permits and licenses. In addition, an installation without a permit will be considered as an illegal hookup to the centralized gas distribution system.

Mr. Morchiladze pointed out that the permit would be given only after experts concluded that an apartment meets all safety requirements for the use of gas heaters.

The head of Tbilgas believes that the introduction of licenses "will facilitate the process of monitoring gas heater installation practices." He also pointed out that these measures were "temporary."

The proposal of the Tbilgas management will be submitted to the Tbilisi Mayor's Office for consideration.

According to the results of investigation, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania and deputy envoy of the Georgian President in the Kvemo Kartli province Raul Yusupov died on February 3 due to carbon monoxide poisoning in an apartment equipped with an Iranian-made gas heater.

Later, the Association of Iranian businessmen in Georgia disseminated a statement announcing that the heater in the apartment had been installed improperly.
