MOSCOW, February 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Western financial world is not indifferent to Russian shipbuilding, in particular, the banking sector is obviously eager to invest in this sphere, Marine Money International Vice-President Peder Bogen told Russian reporters Friday.

In his opinion, the first annual Russian forum on sea shipments, energy industry and financing, to be held by the Sovkomflot Company and Marine Money International will encourage foreign investment in this industry.

"The target of this forum is to explain to Western financiers that apart from YUKOS, there are other energy and ship-building companies in Russia that one can work with," said Bogen.

Asked by RIA Novosti whether foreign investors were not afraid of bringing money to Russia after the YUKOS precedent, he said that what happened to YUKOS was a sad fact which is to make the Western financial community be more cautious but is unlikely to kill interest in investing in Russian enterprises.

The forthcoming forum is to be attended by Western banks, and Russian energy and shipbuilding companies, according to Peder Bogen.

A number of international and European banks that are maintaining links with Russian ship-building companies would like to step up their cooperation, he concluded.
