TBILISI, February 17 (RIA Novosti) - Chairperson of the Georgian parliament Nino Burdzhanadze hopes that the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Tbilisi will make positive changes in Georgian-Russian relations. She said this in the interview to the news agency Novosti-Georgia.

"Unfortunately, it has to be admitted that Russian-Georgian relations remain complicated. But, we want to start everything from scratch", Ms. Burdzhanadze said. The parliamentary speaker noted the importance of both sides' showing political will for the improvement of bilateral relations.

"The visit of Mr. Lavrov is very important. I'd very much like his visit to Tbilisi to be a turning point in our relations because there is a real opportunity to prepare documents that would improve relations between the two countries and move forward in this direction", Ms. Burdzhanadze noted.

Asked whether a package of documents is supposed to be signed during Mr. Lavrov's visit to Georgia, Ms. Burdzhanadze said: "A definite package of documents will be considered". "Both the sides have prepared for the visit and there is, of course, a package to be agreed upon during Mr. Lavrov's stay in Tbilisi", she noted.

The parliamentary speaker said that the Russian side is familiar with the principled position of Georgia on the question of bases and the establishment of antiterrorist centers.

"Nobody argues that Russia is to be sure of the security of its southern borders. But, the laws and the strategic interests of Georgia have to be respected, or there'll be no partnership", Ms. Burdzhanadze said.
