SERGEI LAVROV ON SOLUTION OF IRANIAN NUCLEAR PROBLEM

YEREVAN, February 17 (RIA Novosti) - The development of political process is the only way to solve the Iranian nuclear problem, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Yerevan.

He pointed out the necessity to conduct negotiations and observe the non-proliferation regime and Iran's legal interests in the peaceful nuclear sphere.

"Russia is coordinating efforts with France, the United Kingdom and Germany which initiated the agreements with account for Iran's legal interests in the energy sphere," Sergei Lavrov said.

According to him, Russia, the United States and European countries maintain contacts on this issue.

Mr. Lavrov, currently on a trip to Armenia and Georgia, told journalists that Russia was interested in the development of economic and transport links in the South Caucasus.

"The maximal development of economic, energy and transport links meets our national interests," the Russian Foreign Minister said in reply to a question on the opening of the Georgian-Turkish border.

Speaking about the terms of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Yerevan, Mr. Lavrov said this issue would be considered in the near future.
