STATE DUMA DELEGATION TO HOLD TALKS WITH SUPREME RADA DEPUTIES

MOSCOW, February 13 (RIA Novosti) - Representatives of the State Duma and the Federation Council are heading for Kiev on Sunday to participate in a round of talks with Ukrainian Supreme Rada deputies, member of the Federation Council's Committee on CIS affairs Vasily Duma told journalists.

He explained that the delegation consists of the members of the Russian-Ukrainian Interparliamentary Commission on cooperation.

He reminded the journalists that Moscow and Kiev had signed a series of intergovernmental agreements and the Interparliamentary Committee intended to discuss issues of their legal support and implementation. The talks will also focus on the entire spectrum of legislative activities aimed at the strengthening of bilateral ties and cooperation in economic, scientific, technical and cultural spheres.

Development of legislation in the sphere of labor migration will be another topic of the discussion. Mr. Duma pointed out that according to official data about 2 million Ukrainians work on the territory of the Russian Federation, and unofficially - twice as many.

The sides will also touch upon the issue of relations between Ukraine and the European Union and the prospects of Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Another topic of the talks is the perspectives of opening a Russian cultural center in Ukraine. Mr. Duma reminded the journalists that Russia and Ukraine had signed a relevant agreement, and a Ukrainian cultural center had been already opened in Russia. "We hope that the new Ukrainian leadership will not neglect this issue," the Federation Council member said.
