KALININGRAD, February 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade deems it necessary to abolish duty-free imports of cars and certain other commodities to the Kaliningrad Region, Baltic exclave, said minister German Gref. He was addressing a news briefing to sum up his routine trip to Russia's westernmost area.

"We are calling to put an end to preferential customs clearing for cars," said the minister.

His ministry is ready with a list of commodities to be deprived of customs clearing privileges, and will make a related resolution as soon as it coordinates the list with the regional administration, Mr. Gref went on.

In reply to reporters' questions, he pointed out permanent government efforts to reduce or even abolish import duties on industrial equipment whose analogues Russia is not manufacturing. "We make such decisions every month, and we mean to finish the job by next year's end," reassured the minister.
