AMMAN, February 12 (RIA Novosti's Yulia Troitskaya) - Russia's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Jordan's Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed a cooperation agreement today. Signing the document were Evgeny Primakov, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Heidar Murad Hatim al-Halwani, President of the Jordanian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Primakov is currently on visit to the Kingdom of Jordan. To point out the importance of the document, he said: "It has a no smaller significance than an agreement made at an intergovernmental level as both countries' entrepreneurial communities are taking an ever former grip on economic partnership."

As Mr. Al-Halwani said, in his turn, bilateral trade leaves much to be desired, with last year's turnover barely exceeding $40 million. That was far from enough to truly reflect the two countries' desire for ever closer economic ties.

In a retrospect, he referred to Jordan's first treaty on trade with Russia, made back in 1969. Work is now underway on another two agreements on reciprocal investment protection and on dual taxation avoidance, added Mr. Al-Halwani.

Another document came under preliminary signing in Amman today. That is an agreement to establish a Russian-Jordanian Business Council within the Russian-Arab Business Council.

To stress its great importance, a final signing of the agreement has been scheduled for an upcoming visit by His Majesty Abdallah II the King of Jordan to Moscow, said Mr. Primakov.

There are only businessmen on the Russian-Arab Business Council. Its members represent the various economic branches. The Council issues a monthly bulletin, which carries advertisements free of charge to inform Russian entrepreneurial circles on investment opportunities in Arab countries' economy.

The Council will start publishing a journal in two months. The new periodical will be circulated in seven Arab countries, Jordan among them, to offer information of interest to entrepreneurial communities in Russia and the Arab world.
