"Someone may regard it as a PR or political campaign. But for representatives of the Chechen Republic this is, first of all, a possibility to claim that Chechen people want peace and creation," Mr. Alkhanov told journalists. Chechens will always follow this path, the president emphasized.
"If Maskhadov and Basayev (leaders of Chechen separatists and murderers of innocent children in Beslan) leave Chechen people alone this will be the only thing they can do for the welfare of the nation. People do not ask them to fight and perform terrorist acts," Alu Alkhanov said.
"Chechen people made their decision long ago and want nothing but peace and stability in their country," he stressed.
According to him, those who did not kill innocent people and understand their mistakes can come back to their families.
"I promise that the Chechen leadership will help and support them," Mr. Alkhanov noted.
