The agency will help implement the project, even join it on a government arrangement, "because it is the nation's health, above all, to gain with the progress of sports in this country," he said.
Russia essentially needs such a resort, which can eventually host big international athletic events, added Leonid Tyagachev, Russian Olympic Committee President.
The Rosa Khutor plateau, chosen for the resort, six kilometers east of the township Krasnaya Polyana, occupies 1,820 hectares on the Aibga Range north and northeast slopes.
The project is scheduled for commissioning, December 2007, to cater for four to five thousand skiers at a time.
Interros Co. and its partners intend to invest roughly $140 million in the endeavor, said Vladimir Potanin, Interros President. "The Interros will implement the project together with other investors."
