MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry does not see the "rose" and "orange" revolutions as attempts to squeeze Russia from the post-Soviet space, Russian first deputy foreign minister Valeri Loschinin has said.

"These are inventions. Actually, the process goes the other way around", he told the Vremya Novostei newspaper in an interview.

Mr. Loschinin also noted that he does not favor "street democracy" as backlashing on democratic values and institutions. "The new leadership should better have come to power in the democratic way, not by throwing down", he said.

Mr.Loschinin said that the advent of the new leadership deepens bilateral economic contacts. "Russian presence in Georgia is as weighty as never before: our capital is permeating the crucial strategic spheres, including fuel and energy", he said.

"Mutual Ukrainian-Russian financial and economic penetration is going on. In the last three to four years, the volume of mutual trade has doubled, being almost 17 billion dollars' worth last year, he said.

Asked about Ukraine's possibility of economic re-targeting towards Europe, Mr.Loschinin noted: "There's no problem of re-targeting". "Ukraine has always been looking towards the European Union. It is only normal. We, too, maintaining cooperation with Europe, just as seeking entry into the World Trade Organization, observe the rules of game in the European Union and in international economic relations. Ukraine holds the leading positions in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Mr.Loschinin said.

"The more actively it participates in the Commonwealth processes, the better for Ukraine, Russia and the CIS countries. Simultaneously, this will prompt rapprochement between Ukraine and the European Union", Mr. Loschinin said.
