AGRIGENTO, SICILY, February 8 (RIA Novosti's Sergei Startsev) - "New Colors of Russian Folk Lore" is the name of a Novosti photograph exposition which opened today at the Pirandello Theatre in Agrigento, Sicily.

Best achievements of our photo reporters give an idea of Russia's rich folk traditions, their current development and prospects for the future.

The show is part of an international folk festival, Almond Trees in Blossom, which is having its golden jubilee. Sixteen countries, Russia among them, have sent their folk companies for the 50th Agrigento festival.

"This photograph show offers to many people of other countries the many aspects of Russian culture they do not yet know. There is welcome symbolism to the fact that the itinerant exposition is starting its long journey about Italy with Agrigento, native town of Luigi Pirandello, outstanding author and playwright," Alexander Gusev, Russian Consul General to Palermo, said while opening the exhibition.

Municipal and provincial officers, local entrepreneurs, and Sicilian cultural activists attended the gala.

The exposition, "New Colors of Russian Folk Lore" will appear in many Sicilian towns within a few weeks to come. When it arrives in Palermo, provincial administrative center, the opening gala will include a concert by the Kamushka, Ural folk dance company. The dancers from Perm were great success as they performed at the Agrigento festival.
