KIEV, December 28 (RIA Novosti) - Georgy Kirpa, Transport and Communications Minister of Ukraine, must have been driven to suicide, investigators say.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office launched a criminal investigation into the death of the minister after his body had been found with gunshot wounds in a country retreat outside Kiev, the Interior Ministry's PR department reports. A Makarov pistol and a cartridge shell were discovered near the corpse.

According to the investigation team's preliminary findings, when Kirpa died (presumably around 6 p.m. Monday), there was no one on the property except for his bodyguard. The investigators consider suicide to be the most plausible theory of the death of the minister, a key ally of Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.
