PRESIDENT PUTIN SENDS CONDOLENCES TO LEADERS OF SOUTH ASIAN NATIONS IN CONNECTION WITH NATURAL DISASTER

MOSCOW, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed deep condolences to leaders of South Asia countries in connection with a natural disaster that swept across the region. The natural disaster caused many deaths among population of South Asian countries and extensive material harm, reported press service of the Russian President.

The head of the Russian State sent telegrams with condolences to Indian President Abdul Kalam, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra and President of Sri Lanka Chandrika B. Kumaratunga

The total number of victims of the powerful earthquake and consequent tsunami that occurred on Sunday near the western coast of Indonesian Island of Sumatra exceeded 3,000 people in five South Asian countries.
