BAGHDAD, December 25 (RIA Novosti's correspondent Grigory Dubovitsky) - A delegation of Federation Council representatives intends to visit Baghdad in January-February 2005 to establish co-operation with Iraqi parliamentarians, chairman of the Federation Council committee for international affairs Mikhail Margelov said.

"In the past ten years, there have actually been no contacts at the level of parliamentarians of both countries. Now we hope that a good possibility is emerging for this co-operation," said Mikhail Margelov who had arrived in Baghdad within the framework of the operation to deliver humanitarian aid to Iraq.

Speaking about the January elections in Iraq, Mikhail Margelov noted that in the conditions of combat operations actually continuing in 4 out of 18 provinces of the country, it was difficult to speak about any normal voting.

Nevertheless, the Russian senator expressed the hope that the elections would be held after all, and new opportunities would appear for co-operation between the parliamentarians of both countries.
