CIS COUNTRIES SIGN COUNTER-TERRORISM PLAN FOR 2005

MOSCOW, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - Representatives of the CIS Interior Ministries signed the counter-terrorism plan for 2005 in Moscow, Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said at a Saturday press conference on the results of the extraordinary session of the Council of the CIS Interior Ministers.

According to him, a set of joint anti-terrorist measures, including the counter-terrorism plan for 2005, was adopted in Moscow on Saturday.

The participants in the international forum pointed out that in the conditions of new challenges and threats the sides need utmost consolidation and adoption of resolute measures with the use of all available resources.

"This is the only way to protect people's life and health and provide stability and security of our states," Mr. Nurgaliyev emphasized.

In his words, the plan implies joint operative and preventive measures as part of anti-terrorist activities covering the whole range of terrorism and extremism sources within the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Moreover, the plan includes practical and information-analytical work and the enlargement of the existing databases of leaders and active members of terrorist and extremist organizations and organized criminal groups, the interior minister said.

The exchange of specialists and personnel training in the Interior Ministries' educational establishments is another important aspects of counter-terrorism cooperation, Rashid Nurgaliyev added.

A number of bilateral and multilateral agreements were signed following the session of the CIS Interior Ministries.
