BELGRADE, December 21 (RIA Novosti) - The key strategic trends of the foreign policy of Serbia and Montenegro are membership in the European Union and cooperation with the United States and Russia, Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic said on Tuesday in the ministerial report to parliamentarians (deputies of the Skupstina).

"Geographically, we (Serbia and Montenegro) are in between Europe and Asia. Economically, we are a bridge to Russia," Mr. Draskovic stressed. He added that cooperation with Russia was "the command of the history" for Serbia and Montenegro.

"The door to the European Union is closed for Serbia and Montenegro, because our country has not yet wholly got rid of the Milosevic legacy, especially as regards the bodies of state security and the army top brass," the minister said. According to Vuk Draskovic, the complicated relations between Belgrade and the Hague International Tribunal are the factors still preventing international and, above all, European integration of his country.

"Cooperation with the Hague is a national duty of the Serbians and Montenegrins", Mr. Draskovic said.

The foreign minister noted that "the shortest way to the European Union passed through Washington and Serbia and Montenegro's membership in the Partnership for Peace program".
