ONLINE ANTI-DRUG TELETHON UNDER WAY IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, December 18 (RIA Novosti) -Russia's Federal Drug Control Service together with the Russian Contemporary Humanities Academy and the `Russia without Drugs` Nationwide Union of Public Associations is holding a TV- and Internet telethon "Say No to Drugs!" this Saturday.

According to Alexander Mikhailov, head of service's information department, the telethon, covering over 200 Russian cities, is aimed primarily to encourage public response to the drug control agency's efforts to counter challenges posed by the current onslaught of drugs in Russia.

Apart from senior executives of the Drug Control Service, the telethon features State Duma deputies and senators of the Federation Council; officials of the Government's Youth, Sport and Tourism Agency, representatives of the Russian Wrestling Federation, various ministries, agencies, and public associations, as well as prominent actors, stage and film directors, athletes and journalists.

The program includes live broadcasts featuring public addresses by heads of local governments and local branches of the federal drug control agency from Russia's major cities including St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Tambov, Samara, Biisk, Krasnoyarsk, Tver, Saratov, Novorossiisk, Rostov-on-Don, Ufa and Vladivostok.
