MOSCOW, December 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Union of Russian journalists came forward with an initiative to establish an independent Grand Jury on complaints against media resembling the British model.
The participants of the Russia for Democracy, against Dictatorship congress held on Sunday in Moscow discussed the initiative of the Journalist Union.
"Using the experience of our British colleagues, we plan to form two chambers in its structure, which will have equal authority: the chamber of media community and the chamber of media audience," the statement distributed among the participants of the congress indicated.
The proponents of the new project envision that each chamber will have 25 members. The first chamber will consist of prominent media representatives, and the second chamber will consist of representatives of public organizations.
Russia has never had an independent body of this kind before.
