TEHRAN, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - Iran hopes Russia will help it in the construction of a new nuclear power plant, Sergei Mironov, Speaker of the Federation Council, or the upper Russian parliamentary house, said at a press conference following talks with senior Iranian government officials.

"As the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament pointed out during our talks, they [the Iranians] hope their next nuclear power plant, too, will be constructed by Russia," Mr. Mironov said.

Summing up his talks to reporters in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Sergei Mironov reported that he and his partners had discussed in detail a wide range of bilateral relations and international issues of mutual concern, including the crisis in Iraq.

Trade cooperation was also high on the agenda, with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami calling for a multiple increase of bilateral trade, Sergei Mironov said, adding that this is something in Russia's best interest, too.

The Russian Parliament Speaker has just completed his two-day official visit to Iran, and is heading on for Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Mr. Mironov announced that the Bushehr nuclear power plant's first unit, built with the help of Russian specialists in the northern part of Iran's Persian Gulf coast, would be launched in the year 2006.
