MOSCOW, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the Constitution Court of the Russian Federation has not only fulfilled its mission but also won great authority.

"The Constitution was adopted in the complicated period of Russia's statehood formation and the Constitution Court was set up as the major keeper, defender and interpreter of the country's basic law," Vladimir Putin said at the meeting with the Constitution Court judges on Sunday.

"Your work has been very important for the country," he emphasized.

According to the President, Russia's single legal space has been restored owing to the efforts of the judges. "Other bodies of power were involved in this process, however, the Constitution Court played the key role from the legal and intellectual points of view," the head of state noted.

"Many aspects of the practical activities of the executive bodies in the federal center and Russian regions depend on your position and interpretation of certain provisions of the Constitution," Vladimir Putin stressed.

"Today citizens know that there is the highest instance ready to protect their rights in the criminal and civil spheres," the President said.
