TEHRAN, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - No outside pressure will be able to undermine Russian-Iranian cooperation, believes Sergei Mironov, Speaker of the Federation Council, or Russia's upper house of parliament.

On Saturday, Mr. Mironov held talks in Tehran with Qolam-ali Hadad Adel, Chairman of the Majles (parliament). The senior Russian MP pointed out to his Iranian counterpart that one of the major premises for Russia's foreign policies is the development of good-neighborly and wide-ranging relations with Iran.

Russia and Iran hold similar views on major international issues, especially such as the restoration of peace and stability to the Middle East and the fight against international terrorism, Mr. Mironov believes. "We are trying to promote better coordinated and more intense cooperation between the two countries," he said to his Iranian host.

The Russian Federation Council Speaker praised Iran for being so cooperative with the International Atomic Energy Agency and reemphasized the need to carry on with Russo-Iranian cooperation on civilian nuclear programs.

Qolam-ali Hadad Adel, for his part, remarked that Russia is a priority in Iran's foreign policies. "We believe that the development of Russian-Iranian will benefit the sides' national interests and bring stability and security to the region," he said.

The Majles Speaker said Iran advocates the creation in the Middle East of a nuclear-free zone, but believes that pursuing nuclear programs for peaceful purposes is a legitimate right of the states signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Messrs. Mironov and Haddad Adel also discussed the possibility of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation and stepping up trade between the two countries, the Iranian Parliament's press office reports.
