KIEV, December 6 (RIA Novosti) - Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, one of the two major candidates for the Ukrainian presidency, has appointed MP Taras Chornovyl as his campaign chief for the rerun of the second round of voting, scheduled for December 26. He said he would take time off his prime-ministerial job to be able to concentrate on the presidential race.

Speaking before his campaign team Monday, Yanukovych said that he was confident he would win the repeat vote. "I have not just the will to win, but the people's support, as well," he emphasized.

According to him, there is no revolutionary movement in Ukraine and "majority of the Ukrainian people desire peace, stability, and a better living."

He acknowledged that the Nov. 21 runoff had indeed split Ukraine along the political lines, but said it was neither his fault nor his associates' and pointed the finger of blame at the Verkhovnaya Rada [the Parliament] and at his challenger Viktor Yushchenko's supporters in western Ukraine and in the capital of Kiev.

"I have always opposed pressure on the people. I always opposed violence. I objected to miners' march to Independence Square," Yanukovych pointed out emphatically.
