UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT URGES TO CONDUCT NEW INTERNATIONAL "ROUND TABLE"

KIEV, December 5 (RIA Novosti) - On Saturday, incumbent Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma appealed to Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dr. Jan Peter Balkenende to conduct an emergency meeting of the "round table" on the settlement of the political crisis in Ukraine with participation of international intermediaries, reported presidential press secretary Alena Gromnitskaya.

According to Mrs. Gromnitskaya, the appeal "emphasizes the fact that none of the items of the agreements reached during the meeting of the previous "round table" conducted last Wednesday was implemented."

In a phone conversation with the Dutch Premier (the Netherlands is currently presiding in the EU), Mr. Kuchma expressed hope that the international intermediaries "will regard his appeal with understanding."

At the same time, Mrs. Gromnitskaya pointed out that the appeal of the Ukrainian President did not indicate any specific dates for the "round table."

On Saturday, Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Leonid Kuchma, the Kremlin press service reported. During the conversation, Mr. Putin confirmed the responsibilities of Russian State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov as Russia's representative at multilateral consultations.

The visit of Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski to Ukraine has been postponed till Monday.

Earlier, the media reported that Mr. Kwasniewski would arrive on Saturday and, for the third time, participate in the work of the "round table" on the settlement of the crisis situation emerged after the second round of presidential elections in Ukraine. The Polish President is one of the European intermediaries at the talks on the settlement of the political crisis in Ukraine.
