It will be the first official visit of a Russian president to Turkey in the last 30 years.
According to the Russian President's aide Sergei Prikhodko, an official dinner on behalf of the Turkish President is scheduled for late afternoon on Sunday in Ankara.
On Monday, December 6, the head of the Russian state will conduct talks with Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He will also meet with members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and participate in a Russian-Turkish business forum.
According to Mr. Prikhodko, the sides plan to sign seven documents.
In addition, the following agreements are scheduled to be signed: on mutual protection of intellectual property used in the bilateral military-technical cooperation; on mutual protection of secret information and materials exchanged in the course of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of defense industry; on prevention of incidents at sea beyond territorial waters; a memorandum on cooperation between Gazprom and Turkish company Botash; and two documents in the banking and humanitarian spheres.
According to Mr. Prikhodko, the current visit to Turkey is one of the most important foreign contacts made by the Russian President in the past several years. "It is one of the most important visits in the past few years," he said.
"For many decades, relations between Russia and Turkey were build on the basis of artificial confrontation," Mr. Putin's aide emphasized. "Today, we must abandon this model," he believes.
During the visit to Turkey, the Russian President is accompanied by the energy minister, the defense minister, the President of Tatarstan, heads of Transneft, Gazprom, Tatneft, Rosoboronexport, Novolipetsk metallurgy plant, RIA Novosti, Stroitrasgaz and other officials.
