GROZNY, December 1 (RIA Novosti) - European anti-torture committee delegates have found prison inmates' living conditions and amenities satisfactory, says Ali Iriskhanov, Chechen penitentiary department chief at the federal Justice Ministry.

Delegates of the European committee for prevention of torture and inhuman or humiliating treatment and punishments say prison living conditions have much improved since their previous visit, he stressed in a Novosti interview.

The delegation visited pre-trial detention wards in Grozny, republican capital, and the township Chernokozovo, November 26 through 30. Cells were inspected on random choice, alongside baths, laundries, isolator wards and exercise yards. The visitors talked to suspects and defendants in their cells. There were also thirty three eye-to-eye interviews with detainees. No one of the inmates said he bore whatever grudges against the prison routine and catering, emphasised Mr. Iriskhanov.

The delegates did not make any statements and reprimands, or offer initiatives concerning inmate treatment, he added.
