"The Russian section of the `INDO DEFENSE-2004`, the exhibition's largest, demonstrates the vast potential of your country's military-industrial complex," he said.
"Moreover, we consider the vast scope of your country's participation as a sign of its respect for Indonesia," he added.
"The military and technical cooperation between our countries has an enormous potential and we attach great importance to it," he emphasized.
Mikhail Bely, Russia's Ambassador to Jakarta, believes that the `INDO DEFENSE-2004` provides a good springboard for re-launching a large-scale military and technical cooperation between our two countries dating back to the 1960s.
According to the Ambassador, the Indonesian leadership appreciated the scope of the Russian display at the exhibition, featuring 24 defense companies, including such majors as the Sukhoi aircraft design center and the Moscow based Salyut engineering company.
"By the way, it was the Salyut's exhibits that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono showed the greatest interest in when visiting the Russian section of the exhibition," Mikhail Bely pointed out.
"Our participation in this exhibition provides a good groundwork for continuation of our talks on issues of mutual interest," the Ambassador said.
Referring to the generally accepted practice of not disclosing details of defense-related contracts until completion of all supplies under the contract, Mikhail Bely refrained from elaborating on the particulars of the talks under way.
