HAGUE, November 25 ( RIA Novosti) - The Ukrainian theme was not discussed at the plenary session of the Russia-EU summit, said Sergei Yastrzhembsky, the Russian president's special envoy for Russia-EU relations. "It was raised during the working lunch," Yastrzhembsky said to journalists after the summit.

Yastrzhembsky also informed journalists of the EU's desire to send its delegation to Chechnya and get acquainted on the spot with the situation in that republic.

"We approve of the delegation's visit," he said.

In Yastrzhembsky's words, Russia and the EU have agreed to carry out a joint experiment at a checkpoint on the Russian-Polish border.

As he explained, the checkpoint will operate according to a one-window principle so that customs officers and frontier guards of the two countries could work together and facilitate the border-crossing process for citizens.

Yastrzhembsky also said that another experiment would have to do with the joint establishment of inspection and screening complexes. He stressed that both Europe and the United States possess these latest technologies, but Russia does not.

The joint Russian-Polish border runs in the Kaliningrad region (the Russian Federation's exclave on the Baltic Sea coast).

Apart from the above said, Yastrzhembsky informed journalists that the Russia-EU summit took the decision to create an efficient mechanism for developing the Kaliningrad region.

As he noted, "one of our complaints is a rise in railway transit tariffs." He stressed that the working group would discuss this and other issues related to the development of the Kaliningrad region.
