RUSSIAN AND BRAZILIAN PRESIDENTS ON SPACE COOPERATION

BRASILIA, November 22 (RIA Novosti) - A joint statement concerning the cooperation between Russia and Brazil in a peaceful development of space activities was signed as a result of the talks between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The presidents concluded that the fulfillment of the cooperation program in the sphere of space would give a new impetus to the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in research and utilization of space, which had been signed in 1997, the document reads.

"The presidents were satisfied that Russian and Brazilian experts worked out a long-term program, which provisions are stated in the memorandum to be signed today by the head of the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Brazilian Minister of Science and Technologies," the statement reads.

The leaders of the both countries believe that the memorandum forms a political, judicial and organizational base for fulfillment of definite joint programs and projects in the sphere of the cutting-edge space technologies.

"The both presidents are certain that by 2005 all efforts will be implied for the fulfillment of the legal, organizational and technological measures in order to enhance the cooperation in the space sphere," the document states.
