A NUMBER OF COUNTRIES READY TO SIGN BILATERAL PROTOCOLS ON RUSSIA'S ACCESSION TO WTO

GENEVA, November 18 (RIA Novosti's Yekaterina Andrianova) - A number of countries are ready to sign bilateral protocols on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), said WTO press secretary Josep Bosch.

According to him, Japan and South Korea are ready to sign bilateral agreements with Russia during the forthcoming summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic cooperation in Chile.

Venezuela also claimed its readiness to sign a relevant protocol with Russia in the near future, Mr. Bosch said. Moreover, Norway is ready to sign the final agreement with Russia on the access to the goods market, however, the negotiations on the sector of services is underway, he added.

Maxim Medvedkov, director of the trade negotiations department of the Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry, heading the Russian delegation at the talks in Geneva told RIA Novosti earlier that Russia really planned to sign bilateral agreements on the WTO accession with a number of countries.

In Mr. Medvedkov's words, Russia is ready to compete talks with Chile and Taiwan, however, he refused to comment on the results of the talks with these countries before the signing of the official agreements.

"I can say that during the Chilean summit we shall sign one protocol every day," he noted.

An official session of the working group on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization took place in Geneva on Thursday. It focused on the third version of the final report of the working group.
