COMPENSATIONS TO BE PAID TO FORMER PRISONERS OF NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMPS

VELIKY NOVGOROD, November 13 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Letyagin) - Compensation payments to former prisoners of Nazi concentration camps and ghettos have been resumed in the Novgorod region, the press center of the Novgorod regional administration said referring to the local branch of the international foundation of mutual understanding and reconciliation.

During the second stage compensations will be paid, above all, to former prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos on the territory of Germany and the Baltic States. Novgorod residents involved in forced labor during World War II will start receiving compensations in December.

The second stage of compensation payments will be completed by the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to the press center of the Novgorod regional administration, the international foundation of mutual understanding and reconciliation has received 19,468 official compensation applications from residents of the Novgorod region. Overall, 15 million euros was paid to 14,736 people.
