PRESIDENT OF ABKHAZIA CALLS CAPTURE OF PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING A STATE COUP

SUKHUMI, November 13 (RIA Novosti) - "On November 12, supporters of Bagapsh, Lakoba and Ankvab captured the building of Abkhazian presidential administration and the Cabinet. These actions are nothing but an armed state coup," says the statement of Abkhazian President Vladislav Ardzinba obtained by RIA Novosti.

The document reports that the participants of the assault on the building "opened automatic gun fire and wounded several people." In particular, the statement says, prominent Abkhazian human rights activist, university professor Tamara Shakryl died in a hospital from received wounds.

"Bagapsh and those behind him once again demonstrated their readiness to seize power using any means, including the bloodshed," the presidential statement says.

The document also reports that criminal court cases have been filed in relation to armed seizure of power.

"I am sure that all guilty of this crime will be justly punished," Mr. Ardzinba stated.

On Friday, several thousand supporters of Abkhazian presidential candidate Sergei Bagapsh seized a building, which accommodates the Parliament, the Cabinet and the presidential administration of the self-proclaimed republic, in Sukhumi.
