MOSCOW, Nov 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Abkhazian Foreign Ministry assessed the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement as interference with the republic's internal affairs.

"The Georgian side's statement in the wake of events in Abkhazia on November 12 are assessed by us as interference with the internal affairs of Abkhazia, which has been de jure and de facto independent from Georgia for 12 years," runs the statement of Abkhazian Foreign Minister Igor Akhba.

The document was distributed on Saturday by the Abkhazian Moscow mission's press service.

"Moscow's concern is explained by unlawful military actions, destabilization of the situation in Abkhazia and the region as a whole, and because it worries about the security of tens of thousands of Russian nationals residing on Abkhazian territory," runs the statement.

Russia and Georgia have earlier exchanged statements about the situation in Abkhazia.

Friday night Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko voiced Moscow's "concern" over the unlawful military actions in Abkhazia.

"Should the situation develop in an unlawful way, the Russian side will have to take necessary measures to protect its interests," he said.

On its part, the Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed a protest in connection with this statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry called on Russia to "refrain from interference with the processes of the autonomous republic of a sovereign neighboring state" and called on member countries of the UN Secretary General's Group of Friends and the world community to "unanimously support the sovereignty of Georgia."

On Friday several thousand supporters of the Abkhazian presidential candidate Sergei Bagapsh seized a building in Sukhumi that houses parliament, the Cabinet and the presidential administration of the unrecognized republic.
