MOSCOW, November 9 (RIA Novosti) - A volunteer force of fifty will soon launch social projects in Russia and the United States, Alexander Vershbow, US Ambassador to Russia, said to a news conference in Moscow today.

The initiative will involve the two countries' private activists and public organisations to launch several essential projects. The young volunteers will work in Russia and America for five weeks to educate the public for HIV/AIDS prevention, promote access to information technologies, and protect cultural monuments.

The programme reflects a new purport of bilateral contacts-Russians and Americans are no longer to rival each other but work together. This is a pilot project, so it will involve a mere fifty, while later projects will have a far greater scope, said the diplomat.

The ambassador hopes Russians and Americans will work on the initiative far outside their two countries-in Africa and Latin America, too.

Russian volunteers will start for the USA by air, November 12. Americans are already in Russia, and will depart for its provinces the same day, Friday next.
