NIZHNY NOVGOROD, November 6 (RIA Novosti's Zhanna Voronova) - Inspectors are satisfied with safety conditions at the Balakovo nuclear power plant after the conclusion of repairs at the second energy-production unit of the station, announced the Russian President's special envoy in the Volga federal district Sergei Kirienko. The statement was disseminated by his press secretary Sergei Novikov on Friday.

Thursday night Sergei Kirienko arrived in the Saratov region in order to check the safety conditions at the Balakovo nuclear power station personally.

According to his press secretary, the special envoy, together with the top management of the station, made a tour of the entire facility, including the second energy-production unit, where a leakage of pure water for steam generators was discovered on Thursday.

"I stood right next to the pipe and saw that all defects had been eliminated," the press secretary quotes. "Experts checked radiation levels in our presence. Two independent devices showed 7 microroentgen per hour. In the town of Balakovo the registered figure was 8 microroentgen per hour."

According to experts, normal radiation level for Balakovo -- from 5 to 20 microroentgen per hour - remains in the 30-km control zone of the Balakovo nuclear power plant.

The maximum permissible dose of radiation for a person is 60 microroentgen per hour.
