HANOI, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - The 50th anniversary of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation in the education sphere is marked in Vietnam on Saturday, November 6, Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training told RIA Novosti.

A forum "50 years of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation in the education and training sphere" will be running in Hanoi from November 7 to 8.

According to RIA Novosti's interlocutor, a Russian delegation comprising heads of Russia's leading universities will participate in the celebrations.

The forum will focus on the results of bilateral cooperation in this sphere and its further development, said Tran Van Nhung, Vietnam's deputy minister of education and training.

According to the Vietnamese authorities, cooperation in the education sphere is the most progressive aspect of bilateral humanitarian relations. Before the collapse of the USSR, about 30,000 Vietnamese graduated from Soviet Universities, with 3,500 of them having academic decrees. Over 20,000 people graduated from colleges.

The number of the Russian government's grants to Vietnamese students keeps growing: from 29 grants in 1993 to 240 in 2004. At the moment over 1,000 Vietnamese are getting state education in the Russian Federation and about 3,400 people are studying on the contractual basis.

A rally dedicated to this anniversary will be held in the Friendship Palace in Hanoi on November 7 evening. This will be the 9th annual meeting of Vietnamese graduates from Soviet and Russian universities.
