GROZNY, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - Militants suspected in abduction of the military personnel and assaults on law enforcement officers have been detained in Chechnya, the press center of the regional operative headquarters (ROH) for the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti.

"During investigation, a 22-year-old militant recently detained in the Chechen capital confessed that he had participated in the abduction of a federal soldier in the village of Roshni-Chu in the Urus-Martan district under orders of Doku Umarov," a ROH representative said.

According to his report, militants, posing as federal officers, abducted the soldier while threatening him with weapons.

The militant also confessed that he had participated in a car-bomb explosion in the district center Urus-Martan in September 2003. As a result of the explosion, two law enforcement officers were wounded.

The detained militant is facing charges of abduction and attempt to harm a law enforcement officer.

In Dagestan (a Northern Caucasus republic neighboring with Chechnya), another militant, a 25-year-old resident of the Gudermes district of Chechnya, has been detained in the Khasavyurt district. He is suspected of murders of law enforcement officers in the Nozhai-Urt district, the ROH sources stated.

During a search operation in the Shali district of Chechnya, law enforcement officers discovered weapons cache located 500 meters from a school building in the village of Belgatoi. The cache contained 3 AKM assault rifles, ammunition, a grenade, a self-made explosive device, a 200-gram explosive charge, 6 kilograms of explosive mixture of aluminum powder and saltpeter, and four primers. The search for possible owners is under way.

An officer on duty at the Chechen Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti that one law enforcement officer was killed and two were wounded as a result of an explosion on the road in Shali district on Friday. Federal officers are searching for militants who mined the road.
