NEW BUILDING OF STATE CENTER OF MODERN ART OPENS IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, Nov 5 (RIA Novosti) - A new building of the State Center of Modern Art has opened in downtown Moscow on Friday.

Mikhail Shvydkoi, the head of the Federal Agency on Culture and Cinematography attended the opening ceremony. He congratulated the event's organizers and guests on this important event in Moscow's cultural life.

The new building at an area of about 2,000 square meters will house an exhibition hall, scientific and technical sections, a library, a media library, a publishing complex, production workshops, and a multifunctional hall designed for showing video-recorded concerts and reading lectures.

"The fact that the Center appeared will turn the situation in Russia's culture drastically," Alexander Zavolokin, deputy head of the Modern Art Department of the Federal Agency on Culture and Cinematography, said at a press conference. "This is a specialized area to popularize and develop modern art."

"I believe the state will from now on always support this promising branch of modern Russian culture. The Center faces huge tasks which I am sure will be realized," said Mr. Zavolokin.

Festivities dedicated to the opening of the new building will take place from November 6 to 9 in Dom Polenova and the new building of the Zavod State Center of Modern Art. The Center's main directions of activity will be presented - those relating to supervision, education, providing information and museums.

The exposition in the new exhibition hall will include works of the leading local and foreign modern artists.
