MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - Novosti web resource, "Our Victory: Day after Day" has been nominated for Best Topic in the BOBs. The resource commemorates victory in the Great Patriotic War, 1941-45, for its upcoming 60th anniversary.

The BOBs-Best Of The Blogs has 17 nominations, of which Best Topic is one of the most honourable. The interactive event, with sites in seven languages, makes every contestant reader and author in one, each entry for comment by other users.

There are more than five million blogs in the world. Live Journal, www.livejournal.com, the best known of all, is basis for the community, We are Successors to our Victory, with RIA Novosti for patron. Anyone is welcome to register on www.livejournal.com/community/pobeda_ru/ and offer personal or family reminiscences about events related to World War II and the Allied victory. Photographs and comments on other entries are just as welcome.

Novosti came up with target project www.9may.ru, which combines a web resource with blog communication. The contest jury found the idea very promising. "The project has received a new dimension to get closer to the public with a new and highly interesting content. The blog, We are Successors to our Victory, demonstrates the vast possibilities of Internet technologies," says the official contest site.

Russians' participation in such contest as this is of tremendous importance for the national web, Alexander Pluschev, prominent Internet analyst, and editor-in-chief of the lenta.ru web publication, said in a Novosti interview.

"We Russians are notable behind other countries-in particular, in the pioneer affair blogging is, as it makes every man and woman an independent media outlet. That is a stride toward genuine freedom of speech not only within a country but in the whole wide world. Russian bloggers are not very competitive now just because of our lag.

"There are two reasons for it. First, Russian bloggers are not well versed in the techniques, and use standards like livejournal.com. That's like coming to the World Press Photo with snapshots made by a primitive camera. There is another reason, rooted in our mentality-a majority of Russians appear with ordinary diaries to concentrate on their private life. At best, they offer their private opinions," remarked Pluschev.

Another three Russian-language blog resources have come up for three other nominations. In a new stage of the contest, that starts today to last into December 5, the users will determine winners in a web vote. The jury will make its choice, too. The winners will be announced, December 6.
