MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - "Frozen" conflicts in Georgia should not turn into flashpoints, Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov has said on results of his talks with Georgian parliamentary speaker Nino Burdzhanadze.

"The main thing is that these conflicts do not turn into flashpoints. There is a danger that attempts by that or other side may at any time provoke such developments", the Russian minister stressed.

According to Sergei Lavrov, this could be pernicious for both the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetian dialogue (Abkhazia and South Ossetia are the self-proclaimed republics in Georgia's territory).

The Russian foreign minister noted that there are mechanisms for settling the Abkhaz and South Ossetian problems through negotiation. "We see the road to settlement in an active use of these mechanisms, urging of the sides to dialogue through these mechanisms", Lavrov said.

Russia will actively promote such settlement, he said.

In turn, Burdzhanadze said that it is important for Tbilisi "that Russia play a positive role in settling the conflicts".

The Georgian parliamentary speaker also stressed that Tbilisi is interested in the continuation of talks with Russia.

"Unfortunately, problems are many, although positive aspects have surfaced in our relations, particularly as regards security and the struggle against terrorism", Burdzhanadze said.

"Goodneighbourly partnership is in the interests of Russia and Georgia", she concluded.

On results of the talks with the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Sergei Lavrov told journalists that a timeframe for his visit to Georgia will be coordinated very soon.

He said that he will "certainly go" to Georgia and "only the mutually acceptable timeframe has to be agreed upon".
