RUSSIA PARTICIPATES IN AIRSHOW CHINA-2004

SIANGANG (HONKONG), October 31 (RIA Novosti's Mark Zavadsky) - A respectable international Airshow China-2004 opens in the city of Zhuhai in the south of China. The solemn opening ceremony will be held in Zhuhai's Century Palace - the biggest hall of the city accommodating 1,300 guests. The show will be open to visitors from November 1 to November 7.

Businessmen from 32 countries will attend the show this year. The overall area of the exhibition space is 16,000 square meters - a 15% increase compared with the previous airshow held in 2002.

The airshow program includes a forum dedicated to the development of aviation in China, exhibition flights of the best aerobatics groups from various countries, a Chinese-French forum on cooperation in the sphere of aircraft industry and a beauty pageant of stewardesses.

Russian aerobatics group Strizhi will participate in exhibition flights. Russia will also have one of the biggest exhibits of aircraft models.

According to the interview with Rosoboronexport representative Alexander Smelyakov, during the airshow Russia "will be represented by more than 40 companies and agencies of the defense industry."

"For example, the Sukhoi concern will exhibit for the first time the modernized version of its multipurpose fighter Su-27SK of the "4+" generation, which carries a number of high-precision weapons and is capable of destroying the entire range of targets in the air, on land and at sea," said Mr. Smelyakov.

The Sukhoi family of aircraft will be also represented by Su-30MK fighter, Su-39 multipurpose attack plane, and Su-32 fighter-bomber.

In addition, the MiG corporation will exhibit its MiG-31E interceptor.

The visitors of the show will also be able to get acquainted with high performance characteristics of the Yak-130 trainer, the IL-76MF strategic military transport plane, and Pchela-1 UAV.
