DOCUMENTS ON CIS BORDER GUARD SERVICES' INTERACTION INKED IN SOCHI

MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - Commanders of the border-guard troops of the member-countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have signed 16 documents in Sochi. They intend further coordination and interaction between the border-guard services of the Commonwealth, said Yuri Boiko of the public relations centre of the Russian FSB (Federal Security Service).

He said that the commanders have approved the draft concept of the CIS coordinated border-guard policy and the draft procedure for arranging interaction between border-guard and other agencies in the provision of assistance in the event of critical situations on the outside borders.

They has also approved the draft regulations on a common system for registering citizens of other states and persons without citizenship arriving in the CIS territory, Boiko said.

In addition, the plan has been approved for the involvement of the Council of Border-Guard Commanders in work on the CIS programme for combating international terrorism, as well as priority measures to oppose the transportation of narcotic substances across the border.

The Russian side was represented at the sitting by Colonel-General Vladimir Pronichev, FSB first deputy director, head of the Border-Guard Service.

The conference was attended by delegations from eleven CIS countries, except Turkmenistan. The preceding conference was held in Batumi (Georgia) on July 7 through 9, 2004.
